ActiveBar is dead!!!!

03-07-2005, 5:37 AM

Hi ActiveBar boys,
i am an old user of activebar, since activebar 1.0.
I have really loved this product but now I am really confused, a lot of users request AB3 release with 2003 style but DataDynamics is really foggy about this product.

Eric Johnson from DataDynamics writed some message about AB3 (see at bottom), in the first message he said us that "by the end of Jan. 2005" DataDyn. give us "detail information on the release of AB3". In the second message he said "The first beta of AB 3.0 is expected to be released  in the third quarter of this year".

It's a long time, but i would wait for AB3 because AB it's my first love!

But now the same Eric Johnson from DataDyn. posted the third message writing:

"ActiveBar users,
After considering all relevant business issues, Data Dynamics has decided not to commit to an Activebar upgrade this year. We will continue to maintain and enhance Activebar as our resources permit."

This is the deat of AB!!!!!!

I really hope that DataDyn change mind about this, more i will hope that they give us in AB3 not only 2003 style but also enanched docking capabilities (something like  in visual studio 2005, look at CodeJock XtremeDock like sample).
Otherwise i will be another user that change AB2 with a competitor and more supported product (i think this will be a large community).
I will appreciate all suggestion from user that switched from AB2 to competitor product.

Good Luck DataDynamics
A losed user of yours

The first beta of AB 3.0 is expected to be released  in the third quarter of this year. The Office 2003 style will be one of the new features. Once the final set of features has been determined we will post the information.

Crying
Very disappointing. And it it not just ActiveBar:
Sharpgrid also has not had a serious update in years; and sharpgrid for .net had been promised years ago.

Teebo.com will come out with a toolbar control in the spring (they already have a menu control with Office 2003). Thereafter we no longer will have to bother DataDynamics with our requests for new business.

And also Activesizer has not had a serious upgrade.....

Really i think that DataDyn. products are well designed but very very bad in development and upgrading .....

I propose to give clear message to DataDyn.: everyone that read this forum please leave a message to DataDyn. boys asking for a better upgrading of the products.

WE DON'T WANT TO REWRITE OUR CODE BECAUSE DATADYNAMICS DOESN'T UPGRADE.
BUT IF DATADYN. DOESN'T UPGRADE THE CHOICE OF ALL US MUST BE TO LEAVE DATADYN.

Hi everybody,

as you can see DataDynamics doesn't reply.

Boys we have lose ActiveBar,from now keep in mind that every code line you write with ActiveBar is a dead line code.

So leave ActiveBar and leave DataDynamics to its trouble with SharpUi (just a low level component under .net, ActiveBar was the number one on Activex).
If you look for new components under Activex platform look away from DataDynamics, for example Codejock or Dockstudio.

Bye Bye.

Hi Stevena,
is DynamiCube dead?
How are your development staff?

We will continue to support and provide updates for ActiveBar and DynamiCube. ActiveBar 3.0 was pulled from the product schedule for this year but that does not mean we will never release an upgrade for the product.

Dear Eric and dear all,

as you can see from the high number of visit in the forum topics about ActiveBar3, an ActiveBar3 will made really glade your user and can be a good bussiness for DataDynamics. First it will give you a lot of upgrade from your users (+$$$), second it will be a strong way to don't lose users  (-$$$).

But we are long waiting (some years) for an AB3 and since now DataDynamics is really foggy about it.
One day you said that you give us AB3, another day said that you will release it on the third quarter of this year, the day after you said that you don't plan to make an AB3, last you said that may be you do AB3 but not this year!!!!!!

Do you think this is professional ?

We (the AB users) need to be sure, we don't like to write complex code waiting something that will never be released.

So if you plan an AB3 i am glad and i will stay with DataDynamics, if you don't plan AB3 i will change with CodeJock or DockStudio or something other.

Since you don't give us a professional schedule for AB3 I think that ActiveBar is dead!!!

Bye Bye

Indifferent
We have a been a happy user since 1997 ABar1, still we are now making the switch to DockStudio. 2006 is just to far away for us.

Good luck everyone

Hi Eric K.,

yes you are rigth, 2006 is far away. But worst of all DataDynamics doesn't be able to release AB3.
It's really time to swap component firm, DD is not professional!

At least a 2.6 version that just adds Office 2003 rendering would be really helpful. We are currently evaluating Codejock for new projects, but we got a lot of existing ones and would like to stick with ActiveBar if at least the rendering style could be addressed.

We are currently very dissatisfied, too!

DockStudio is really nice - however, I've got so much work into a fairly large app ( http://aspexpress.com), that it would be too much right now, to switch over.

Any ActBar to DockStudio translators?

The same for me - we are also have a large application and it is not possible to migrate to a new component.

I'm very dissatisfied about DD not to release a new version (Office 2003 Style)

If your company don't plain upgrades we will not upgrade to .Net with you!!! Because you will not make upgrades to them when they became old.

What is the problem with AB3? Price? Users?
