View Designer Not shown in web application
|
|
|
|
|
I have an existing web application under source control using Team Foundation server. When I add a new report to the App_Code directory I don't have the option to view using the designer. The file is being treated like any other class. If I disable source control on the project and add the report the option to view using the designer is available.
I've taken the non-source controlled report file and removed it from the App_Code directory and re-enabled source control. I then add the file back to the App_Code directory and the option to view designer is once again not available.
I've checked in the web.config file and it references the ActiveReports3 and ActiveReports.Viewer3 assemblies. There is also a licenses.licx in the application root along with App_Licenses.dll in the bin.
I've tried the steps with a new web project not under source control and view designer is available.
I've also tried adding the new report to the root of the application and the App_Code directory with the same result.
Is there something that TFS is not allowing Visual Studio to do when the solution is under source control? I'm hoping I haven't missed a post in the forums about this issue.
Let me know if their is any further information I can supply.
Thanks for the help.
Brian

Brian,
The issue which you are facing is actually a known issue and there is a Case 127683 already opened to address this issue. I have added your E-mail address as an affected user to this case. In the meantime you may want to register on our announcements forum to get updates about new builds and releases:
http://www.datadynamics.com/forums/54/ShowForum.aspx
Also please make sure that the report files are not read only and not locked in visual studio in some way. If you are able to check out the files and make sure that they are fully editable then you could try doing that as a workaround.
Regards,
Ankit

Ankit,
Where can I find information on case 127683? I've tried checking out the entire solution but the behavior is unchanged. If the report is put into a separate class library project everything appears to work properly. I'm going to try embedding the reports in class library and see if I can work around this issue until its corrected.
Thanks,
Brian

Has this issue been address, or has it been corrected in version 6? This is a very damaging problem and from what I see has been going on for over 3 months now.

I am using Visual Studio 2008 with SP1. Connected to TFS for source code management. Recently upgraded to Active Reports 6 professional (licensed version).
We are having this issue also where we cannot use the designer which makes the software close to useless.
It looks like this has been a high priority item for quite awhile. Was this supposed to be fixed in AR6. What can we do? It is difficult if not impossible to work productively on reports without the designer.
Thanks

OK...But this issue has been open for almost 6 months as a "must fix" item; high priority. The problem makes it pretty much impossible for people to work with the software. Is it really being worked on or should we be looking at other software options?

I have to agree, I think we have been more than patient about giving your company time to correct the issue. Keeping a uncontrolled version of the program and then having to merge via file copy into the controlled version of the program is not acceptable to any team larger than 1 developer and even then you’re making us do more work. How many other high priority items like this are there? or is there a status higher than high that is taking precedence? All other 3rd party controls I’ve used work fine with TFS apart from this one. For that reason, unless far better concern is given over this issue I know my company will be moving toward alternative control options.

Any chance of getting this as a priority for the next sprint? It severely limits our ability to work on reports. The "things" that customers love and developers don't...

It's been a few weeks and I wanted to check in. Have you been able to reproduce the issue and is progress being made on resolution?
I am getting incredible pressure to bring Crystal Reports in as my management can't understand why we're late on report development. I really don't want to go down that path so I'm hoping there is some progress?

Apologize for the inconvenience. The issue has been assigned to our development team with the highest priority. Unfortunately I cannot provide you any particular ETA for this case. I have already attached your E-mail address to the list of affected users for this case; you will be notified when this issue gets fixed.
Do let me know if you need further assistance/clarification.
