How do I get my hands on the DLLs? PDFExpt.DLL, etc?
|

We are having trouble running our 2004-vintage PDFExpt.DLL, etc under 64-bit Windows Server 2008.
I downloaded the lastest release, found the DLLs (in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Data Dynamics\Active Reports 2)...
But still, we blow up each time we attempt to fax.
I see from forum posts, that we need to run ActiveReports as a 32-bit process. How do we do that, exactly? Does that mean we have to physically locate the DLLs in the SysWOW64 folder? (We're very new to Windows Server 2008.)
Thanks in advance! - Hoyt

Hi, Amit! Thanks for the reply!
Unfortunately, the link you provided has links to your download page, which I've seen -- and the Microsoft VB6 support page, which I've seen -- and makes the statement that the IDE is not supported under 64-bits, but that's not my problem. I am running a classic ASP web site, that crashes whenever we fax. We're trying to fax reports, not create/design them.
I have downloaded the latest DLLs, and they crash. We are getting a 800a01ad
error ' ActiveX component can't create object.' Have you encountered that before, esp. in the 64-bit context? Any any suggestions?
From Microsoft:
This error is
usually generated because dynamic-link libraries (DLLs) on which the COM object
depends are one of the following:
- Missing from the system
- Not in the system path
- Not accessible by the system
because of security settings
Assume that I don't have any 64-bit experience (which is the case). Do you happen to know -- do I need to put the ActiveReport DLLs -- exclexprt, htmlexpt, pdfexpt, rtfexpt, and textexpt -- into the \Windows\SysWOW64 folder? Do you happen to know -- do the VB6 run-time DLLS have to be in that folder? Do all 32-bit DLLs have to be in that folder?
Any hints are greatly appreciated. :)
Thanks, Hoyt

It is currently not possible to use ActiveX DLL’s in 64 bit environment.
Instead I recommend using another machine for ActiveReports 2 (COM) development. Many people who need to support legacy VB6 applications and also need to use a newer 64-bit OS will run XP 32-bit in a VM.
