You can use dynamic column and row groups to organize data in a matrix.

To automatically group a matrix using dynamic columns and rows

  1. In the Layout view of the report, drag fields from the Data Explorer onto a row or column header in the matrix. This action adds both an expression to the textbox in the cell and a grouping to the matrix.
Note: The row header is the bottom left cell. The column header is the top right cell.
  2. Drag an additional field onto a row or column header to split it into another dynamic row or column. (A bar indicates whether the field is added above or below the original column header, or to the left or right of the original row header.) This action adds both an expression to the textbox in the new cell and another grouping to the matrix.

To manually group a matrix using dynamic columns and rows

  1. Right-click a row or column header and choose Add Column Group or Add Row Group. This adds a new cell below the original column header or to the right of the original row header.
  2. In the Column Groups or Row Groups smart panel that appears, enter a Group on expression by which to group the data.
  3. You can optionally enter an expression or static text in the textbox in the new cell.
