Data Binding with the Chart UI

Data can be bound to charts very simply using the UI. When you click on the chart in the layout tab, you will notice that areas with the following labels appear:

• Drop data fields here
• Drop category fields here
• Drop series fields here

Simply drag fields from the Data Explorer and drop them onto the appropriate areas. If you need to edit the expressions in any of these fields, right-click them and select Edit.

If you want to take advantage of the many other chart options you can control, you may instead right-click the chart and choose Properties. The Chart Data Region smart panel offers a Data page in which you can set the Dataset name for the chart and add, remove, and edit expressions for Values, Category Groups, Series Groups, and Filters. The smart panel also offers other pages in which you can control a wide array of properties to create exactly the chart you need. For more information on those properties, see Chart Appearance.
